Early Warning by William M. Arkin - washingtonpost.com
Looks like I was right in my surmise that the "Bird" flu was just another bogus diversionary scare tactic of the Bushie Panic Squad: "'Avian flu is not an imminent threat to the United States because of responsible agencies with active and preventative measures already in place.'
This is the lead sentence of a 'Point Paper on Avian Flu' produced by U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM), the command President Bush would mobilize should there be an influenza pandemic.
Yesterday, when I wrote that the Pentagon is planning to pay only perfunctory attention to bird flu in its largest 2006 homeland defense exercise, I didn't consider the possibility that the absence of bird-flu preparation was because calmer minds don't see the need for panic -- thanks, by the way, to BP for the leak."
