O.K. I've had it.

I can't do it anymore. I cannot watch another cable news show with it's talking heads and self-proclaimed experts who do nothing but argue, scream at each other, yell over each other, forget to shut up and listen, miss the forest through the trees, and overall fail at delivering anything that can be remotely described as objective "news".

How many times can you watch the same "Political Strategists" circulating through the air waves from show to show reiterating the same canned talking points ad nauseum? How much propaganda can a person take? It's numbing. Maybe that's the idea.

We wonder why our children are performing below other countries academically. It is no wonder. Just turn on the tube. Forget the idiotically unreal "reality" shows and other drivel that pollute the airwaves. Just turn on CNN or MS-NBC. With rare exceptions, I defy you to find any real news anywhere. Rather, we have 24 hour news stations with Big Brother slogans like "CNN-The most TRUSTED name in news." (Or is that MS-NBC. I forget. But I digress.) Trusted for WHAT? For guaranteeing to drive you crazy with their sloppy, screaming, sensationalism? For boring you to death by broadcasting the same, exact stories (at the same time) on every station day after day after day? For giving you a headache from struggling to hear just one relavent piece of actual, factual, informative NEWS you CAN trust? No wonder the younger generation gets their news from Real Time with Bill Maher and The Daily Show. You can at least trust them to be stimulating and funny.

What we are witnessing on the news is the same thing we have been witnessing on the boob tube for years: the dumbing down of America. If you want your kids to grow up into intelligent, empathetic, reasoning human beings, turn off the TV and shove a good book in their face. Then start demanding that the government overhaul the education system in this country. But, again, I digress.

When did the news become a forum for political spin-meisters? When did the news become the finer points of propaganda? When did the news cease to revolve around facts? Facts? What facts? Who needs facts when you have ratings? Or when you're doing the dirty work of the Bush Administration by regurgitating their neo-con reasons and lies for going to war without questioning the FACTS? The Project for the New American Century has been around for a LONG time. I stlll haven't heard anyone on Hardball or Wolf Blitzer talk about the Neo-Conservative vision of the world that this administration has been cramming down our throats for the last 5 years. I think it had a teensy weensy bit to do with why we waged a war on Iraq.

Sorry for getting a bit carried away. But sometimes, you just can't take it anymore. It's almost 2 am here, so I'm going to stop my tirade for tonight and continue another day.

Think I'll skip the morning news.
