The media are minimising US and British war crimes in Iraq

CLICK TO READ: Guardian Unlimited | Guardian daily comment | The media are minimising US and British war crimes in Iraq by George Monbiot

THE UNKNOWN CANDIDATE: We don't like to even think about Iraqi civilian casualties, much less speak of it. But it is an ugly, ugly fact of this war. Our government hides the statistics--if they even bother to collect them. They don't want us to know the realities. Remember this is the President (Bush) who believes he creates his own reality by passing off his neo-con fantasies as truth.

But we all know better--whether we want to admit it or not. And the press definitely knows better--whether they want to admit it or not. The difference between us and the press is that the latter has an obligation to report it. But, in our current world of propagandized media, they do not. Monbiot is correct. It's time for a change.

MONBIOT: "We can expect the US and UK governments to seek to minimise the extent of their war crimes. But it's time the media stopped collaborating."
