Moments ago, I received word that Camp Marez, a US military base camp located at Mosul Airport, was under attack by unknown assailants for approximately 20 to 30 minutes. According to my source (an American private contractor stationed at the base), the attack occurred this morning (nighttime in Mosul) when the base was surrounded and attacked with rockets, mortars, and gunfire.
Fires were burning inside the base as soldiers returned gunfire. No word on casualties.
Mosul has been widely reported to be a relatively safe, secure area prior to today's attack.
Strange, but I can't seem to find one news story reporting this attack.
