If you get sick, do it in Massachusetts

... that is, if you want to get well without filing for bankruptcy.

Massachusetts is about to become the first state to provide close to universal health coverage. The state legislature passed the bill on Tuesday. And Governor Mitt Romney has vowed to sign it.

The bill provides health insurance for all its citizens using methods and ideas from both sides of the political spectrum, dividing the cost between business, individuals, and government. It's a great example of how bipartisan cooperation can achieve meaningful, much needed reform for constituents. The bill, while not perfect, is a vast improvement over the status quo.

It's interesting how a few, well-governed states are stepping up to fill in the enormous, gaping potholes left by our Do-Nothing Federal Government. Washington has become so corrupt, so insular, so venomous. it has all but rendered itself ineffectual. The people's priorities, largely, are not on their political agenda. So exactly why do we need them?

Anyone for seceding from the union? I'm game.

Ironically, if BushCo continues its Royal Reign of Irresponsibility and Entitlement, states may ultimately want to secede from the union, this time in order to avoid Civil War.

Yes it is good news. It's not the kind of solution I would ultimately like--it has a number of problems that I think will become more evident once the law goes into effect. But it was a good stopgap effort to help people in Mass. I honestly believe that with the right leadership, we could implement universal health care for all Americans. Sigh. Is he impeached yet?
