ACTION ALERT: OUT OF IRAQ IN 2006

Sign the "OUT OF IRAQ IN 2006" petition now.

Click on "Add Your Name" to sign.

Message from John Kerry:

One general after another demanding Rumsfeld's resignation. More citizens every day joining in support of our May 15 deadline for Iraqi leaders to stop their squabbling and form a government.

In these and many other ways, because of citizens like you, the wheel is slowly, but surely, turning on the question of Iraq. Over the next ten days, we're going to give it another huge push. But, before I tell you more, please take a moment right now to sign in support of the Kerry Iraq plan:

Sign our Out of Iraq in 2006 petition now.

It's time for Iraq's leaders to seize the opportunity for democracy in Iraq that our troops are sacrificing every day to create. If Iraq's leaders can't move past their infighting and endless delays to form a new government by May 15, we should immediately withdraw all of our troops. If they meet the May 15 deadline, we'll bring America's combat troops home by the end of the year and put the future of democracy in Iraq where it belongs -- in the hands of the Iraqi people.

The clarity and precision of our plan stand in sharp contrast to the aimless approach of the architects of this war -- Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld. All across America, people are strongly dissenting from the Bush administration's "stay for as long as it takes" policy -- and, just as important, standing up to the administration's attempts to vilify and question the patriotism of those who dare to speak out.

Decades ago I stood up to the Nixon administration and spoke out for a change of course in Vietnam. Four days from now, I will be delivering a speech at Boston's Faneuil Hall on the critically important topic of war and dissent. It's time to remind America that, when a stubborn president has America headed profoundly in the wrong direction, only citizen action can change our country's course.

The fight is just beginning. I recognize the importance of the United States Senate as an institution that can help change America's course. And I know that we can't force George W. Bush to confront reality in Iraq until we force the Senate to do the same.

Sign our Out of Iraq in 2006 petition now.

I will be acting in the Senate to bring change beginning when the current congressional recess ends on Monday. And I will be needing your help to move the Senate to action.

Working together, we can make the next 10 days an important turning point on Iraq -- and we can build momentum as our May 15 deadline approaches. You can help right now in three important ways. First, sign the Out of Iraq in 2006 petition. Second, forward this email to as many people as possible. And third, pay special attention to your email over the next 10 days.

Events could move quickly -- and you may need to act in a matter of hours.

Sincerely,

John Kerry

P.S. Some of America's most respected retired generals have called on Donald Rumsfeld to resign. We've long ago demanded the Secretary of Defense's resignation. Clearly, if President Bush acted with the decisiveness this moment demands, America could have a new Secretary of Defense in place by our May 15 deadline. And that would add much-needed impetus to the drive to successfully end America's military engagement in Iraq.

John Kerry is giving a speech in Boston in Faneuil Hall on April 22nd, the 35th anniversary of his testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations committee in 1971 for the VVAW.

I'll be there early to make sure I get a seat for this historic occasion. John Kerry is a true American hero and patriot. He's taken the worst blows from both the Nixon Administration and the Bush Administration and he's still standing and fighting back.

John Kerry is not going away and he will never go away as long as America needs him. And we do need him. He's the only one who can close the circle that was opened with Vietnam. He's the only one who can lead us into a new era.

I believe in destiny. And I believe Senator Kerry's greatest destiny lies ahead.

You sound a bit hero-worship-y. Kerry let everyone down in the last election. He almost immediately conceded the election--despite evidence of vote fraud. He has done nothing to safeguard our elections since. He voted to go to war In Iraq--despite the obvious bogus reasons for doing so. (Since I and so many others knew the war was wrong, how could he plead ignorance?) He has yet to 'walk the walk', and his 'talk' has been politically expedient at best. He has not shown himself to be a leader in the Senate. His time came...and went. I would never support him unless he were to miraculously win the nomination again and the only choice was between him and another awful Republican.

That said, I do appreciate some of the petitions Kerry has circulated recently. The problem is, it's too little, too late--and, as usual, others did it--and a lot more--first; others led the way and Kerry merely jumped on the politically expedient bandwagon. His own actions have defined him as a follower, not a leader or a president.

Your logic is impaired. Senator Kerry didn't let anyone down. I've been following what has been happening in the Ohio law suits and it is going to take years to unravel the fraud. It has taken years to get justice in the NH phone jamming case and the corruption in Ohio not only went deeper but was far more extensive. Remember the man was a lawyer and a prosecutor. He also had more lawyers on the payroll than were probably ever gathered to one cause in history. You think he conceded too soon? You know better than all these lawyers and advisors? Maybe you should run for president then because you are a genius.

Senator Kerry is still fighting for fair elections and has co-authored legislation that calls for paper trails and other protections for voters.

Too many people on the left are sore about losing, but that is hardly productive.

The Senator has been a leader in the Senate and he has been a leader on just about every issue of importance to our country. He's also generated a lot of money and a lot of support for Democrats around the country. He helped to put a lot of Democrats into office in 2005 and he's working hard to take back Congress THIS year.

Here is just a few of the things Senator Kerry has done since the election. It is not comprehensive. He's also been all over the country speaking out on every issue and calling for the filibuster of Alito when other Dems cut and ran.

A group of my friends and I had the opportunity to sit down with the senator last December (over a beer and he bought) and let me tell you, it was eye-opening. While the conversation was off the record, many issues were discussed and let me tell you, this guy is the real deal. He's tough and he's ready for the fight of his life, and that fight is for our country.

As for hero worship, the term doesn't even begin to describe the loyalty that the senator inspires.

Senator Kerry is drawing bigger crowds than he did before the election. Grinnell in Iowa yesterday: crowd of 1000 as opposed to his last visit there prior to the election when he drew only 400 folks. He's raking in money more than any other Dem for Dems. He's got stronger loyalty and support than any other Dem out there. His e-mail list has nearly doubled since the election.

Nobody is forcing us to donate to Keeping America's Promise, Senator Kerry's PAC. And nobody is forcing us to post in support of the senator. The Democratic Party, the pundits and the power brokers might want someone else in 2008, but Senator Kerry has the support of a HUGE silent majority of real people. Just count the dollars...and they are NOT coming from huge corporations. They are coming from ordinary supporters who give $10., $25 and more when we can afford it.

The Democratic Underground Kerry Group has almost 90K posts in support of the senator, which is amazing when you realize this group started AFTER the election in '04.

It's never too little too late to save our democracy and the only one who can do it is John Kerry. 2004 only forged the steel that he's going to need to do it. He fell, got up and he's tougher and smarter than ever. He's learned and he's ready.

I believe it is his destiny to be President, but he hasn't decided if he will run. He will run only if he feels we need him. My feelings: we do need him. Desperately.

Facts are facts and you can't change them. You have the right to support whomever you like. But Kerry's record speaks for itself and, in my opinion, it is not that of the kind of leader I feel we need.

The decision to concede the election was not made by lawyers. It was made by Kerry. Even Edwards did not agree to concede at the time Kerry did.

What has Kerry done in the SENATE by way of introducing legislation to prevent the next vote fraud?

How can you not question why he has not been more pro-active on that and so many other issues like torture and rendition and domestic spying and on and on? Barbara Boxer and Russ Feingold have provided far more pro-active stick-your-neck-out leadership than Kerry and others.

I respect your views and your right to support any candidate you believe in, but I do not share your views about Kerry.
