I thought I was the only one who felt "creepy" watching the Olympics this year--feeling a little uncomfortable about rah rah-ing for Team U.S.A. It seems, thankfully, I was not alone in my feelings and thoughts. William Greider of The Nation put it into words far better than I could have: Read his article,
"Olympic Swagger." Bet you an Olympic Gold you will relate.

Why feel guilty about American flag waving and cheers? Other countries were no less, or even more, unrestrained. Did you catch all those orange Dutch ice skating fans? The emotive Italians, who had every right to be thrilled by their athletes? The jubilant South Koreans?
What is your problem? I think you suffer from inverse Ugly American syndrome.
Hi Mike,
I've read Greider and agree with you and him. I'm revising a textbook on Sports in Society and discussing such issues (see http://sportsinsociety.blogspot.com/also). I'm interested in the photo that ran with your post. Can you assist me in finding the source, because I'd be interested in publishing it in my text.

Hey Mike,
I agree with you and Greider, and I'm discussing such issues in a textbook on Sports in Society. I'm very interested in the photo you ran with your post. I'd like to discuss if I could use it in the book.
I'm not mike... mike is a commenter, not poster. However, to answer your question, the photo disappeared from it's original online source -- so I'm afraid I can't help you.
