Iraq: Living Hell

As our "Chief-Beat-Around-The-Bush" continues to issue his inane, ignorant, broken record responses to the press, in his equivocatory, shilly-shally effort to somehow achieve "success" in Iraq, Dahr Jamail reports from inside the insanity that is Iraq on the increasingly hellish situation there.

If you think you know how badly things have deteriorated -- you don't -- it's worse than you imagine. Jamail includes e-mails received from his sources in Iraq, firsthand accounts of the horrors, including one from a young American soldier (via his mother) that will rend your heart.

Jamail concludes with this:
"The fact is, for most Iraqis, there is little hope left, though polls show that more than 70% of them still want all occupation forces out of their country. I've long since abandoned asking myself the question: How much worse can it get in Iraq? My Iraqi friends and colleagues tell me that one of the more popular sayings in Baghdad nowadays is, 'Today is better than tomorrow.'...."
We must all face reality even if our administration refuses to do so: Iraq is lost. It is too late for anything remotely resembling "success."

The best we can do at this late date is to follow Dennis Kucinich's lead: support his call to use the remaining military budget to immediately bring our troops home.

Exactly who will handle opening the lines of communication and negotiating with friends and "foes" in the region is up for grabs -- but it must be done. Bill Clinton perhaps? Or let's test the temerity of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and the other 2008 presidential hopefuls. If they're not up to the task now, better we find out sooner rather than later.

In the meantime, tell your representatives what you expect from them in no uncertain terms: Experts agree there is no military solution in Iraq. 70% of the Iraqi's want us out. We must reject the imperialistic war policies of BushCo and start brokering peace in the region -- for the sake of our troops, Iraq, America, and the world.

Thank Dennis Kucinich for his courage to speak truth over political correctness and spin -- and support him to the hilt.
