Feds Wasted Millions� in Katrina Contracts, Audit Finds

WASHINGTON (March 17) - The government wasted millions of dollars in its award of post-Katrina Hurricane contracts for disaster relief, including at least $3 million for 4,000 beds that were never used, congressional auditors said Thursday. Read more.By the Numbers:
$3 Million: Amount spent on 4,000 beds that were never used
$10 Million: Cost to renovate and furnish 240 rooms in Alabama that housed only six before being closed
Over 350: Contracts valued at $500,000 or greater that were awarded without competition or with open-ended terms
