Isaiah J. Poole writes:
"Only the most paranoid might conclude that today’s arrests in Britain in connection with an alleged terror plot was timed to coincide with Republican mobilization for the fall elections. But you have to concede that the timing is at least convenient...."Count me among the "most paranoid." After so many lies from the Fear Monger in Chief and his Merry Band of Spinners, I find myself skeptical as to the truth of any statement coming from Chertoff, Gonzales, Cheney or any other administration source. Since the Brits have been one hundred percent in cahoots with BushCo since the regime's inception, I take any statements from their intelligence officers with another grain of salt.
Given my confessed paranoia, I would consult a shrink except that, deep down, I know I am not suffering from any form of mental illness. I am merely reacting as any sane person would to statements made by those in power who have proven to distort the truth not once, but over and over again.
Poole's article only confirmed that I am not alone in my suspicions of fear-mongering and that my distrust is, at the very least, justified.
BushCo has shown that they will stop at nothing to accomplish their ulterior goal of World Empire. Another lie intended to manipulate public sentiment--especially before an election when they are bogged down in unpopular war? Big deal. They create their own reality, remember?

Well, maybe. But bush operatives don't generally tend to be bright enough or cooperative enough to pull off the kind of subterfuge you worry about here.
Personally, I don't know how long fear and warmongering based on fear can be kept up. At some point enough people will see the brainless rationales Bush gives for "why they hate us" for what they are.
If not as strongly, I still share your misgivings: if it had been German or Spanish police, or even Canadians I'd have more confidence than I have in the findings of the same us/uk intelligence organizations that agreed or at least did not deny the claim of Saddam buying uranium:(
You write, "...bush operatives don't generally tend to be bright enough or cooperative enough to pull off the kind of subterfuge you worry about here."
Wish that were true. I think they are a lot brighter than we guess (with the exception of Bushie, perhaps). What appears to be idiotic actions on their part, is nothing more than a methodical, intentional execution of surreptitious plans, which, given their real aims, aren't so stupid at all.
Let's not forget that approx. 50% of Americans STILL believe that Saddam had WMD. That fact alone makes BushCo pretty darned smart -- on a Rovian level, at least.
From BushCo's perspective, as long as we continue to think their actions "stupid", we will have no motivation to look for deeper, more Machiavellian motives. With the media spewing out their talking points hourly and focusing our attention where the administration wants it or diverting it from where they don't, they succeed--as long as the American people remain in their current dumbed down state. (Which is why, of course, they do nothing to fix our ailing education system). There is indeed some savvy brain-power underlying their maddening "stupidity."
