Personally, I would never consider polygamy. But I also would not be so presumptuous to tell someone else how to live his or her life as long as he or she is not harming others.

As for your argument, there are far more women than men in our society. So the current "losers" in our all monogomous society are women, in that there aren't enough men to go around.

I also do not believe that if polygamy were legalized, that hoards of people would adopt that lifestyle. They wouldn't. it goes against the majority's social mores and most would never even consider it--myself included. Therefore, your dire prediction of bitter, wifeless men turning to crime is not any more likely than hoards of husbandless women in our monogomous society going berserk.

The point I was trying to make was that illegal wars, genocide, world hunger, torture, and other such horrors are far more damaging to society--and children--than are gay marriage or polygamy. So why do people get so up in arms over the latter and utter not a peep about the former? Think about it.

Regards, TUCThe Unknown Candidatehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12297082094876331950noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16338321.post-1142202998011632292006-03-12T16:36:00.000-06:002006-03-12T16:36:00.000-06:00Before you endorse polygamy, think of this sentenc...Before you endorse polygamy, think of this sentence from Tierney: "The biggest losers from polygamy are the poorer men who end up with no wives." and ask yourself "Does our capitalist system reward the 'right' things enough?" Put it another way, if Donald Trump and everyone like him had 20 "wives" would that improve society or damage it? Would there be a lot of decent-but-poor men who would find no prospects of marriage? What would be the effect of a significant increase in the number of men without hope of marriage? Would they be bitter, drop out of society, turn to crime?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
